Q&A
What is the difference between helping a child versus supporting a child?
Helping is when you step in and actually do something for your child, like tying their shoe when they are just too young to do it for themselves. Supporting is being with them, encouraging or instructing, while they COMPLETLEY do it for themselves. So it could mean that you would have to spend fifteen minutes with a child while they tie their shoes for themselves without any help from you. Support takes a lot of patience and maturity, helping is quick and easy so parents often error on the side of giving children too much help when they should be supporting them instead.
